DOUGLAS “PETE” M. BISHOP

Douglas “Pete” M. Bishop, 90, of Whitwell, Tennessee, was called home on Wednesday, April 15, 2026. Born on February 12, 1936, to William Hubert Bishop and Emma Cross Bishop, Pete grew up with a strong work ethic and a deep appreciation for the simple joys of life.  Pete was married to the love of his life, Theresa Ledford Bishop, with whom he shared many years of devotion and companionship. A self‑employed carpet installer, he took great pride in his craft and built lasting relationships with those he served.  A man of many interests, Pete enjoyed collecting knives and old cap guns, each piece a small treasure that reflected his curiosity and appreciation for history. He was an avid fan of westerns, often found relaxing with a classic film that brought him joy and comfort.  Above all, Pete cherished time spent with his family. His presence, steady and warm, created memories that will be held close by all who knew and loved him.  Pete’s life was one of quiet strength, simple pleasures, and deep love. His legacy lives on in the hearts of those he leaves behind.

Pete is preceded in death by his father, William Hubert Bishop; mother, Emma Cross Bishop; and sister, Nora Lee Harmon.

Left to cherish his memories are his wife, Theresa Ledford Bishop; sons, Douglas Ray (Heather) Bishop, Douglas (Susan) M. Bishop, Jr., William Hubert Bishop; daughters, Pam (Steve) Sullivan, Debbie (Everett) Lofty, Connie Britt, Cindy (J. D.) Vandergriff, Cheryl (Allen) Phillips; brothers, William H. Bishop, George Wheeler Bishop, Bobby (Aileen) Bishop; sisters, Billie Morgan, Sally Bishop; several grandchildren; several great grandchildren; and 2 great- great grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.

Visitation is Friday, April 17, 2026, from 3:00 to 7:00 pm CST and on Saturday, April 18, from 10:00 am to 12:00 Noon CST at Tate Funeral Home in Jasper, Tennessee.

Funeral services are on Saturday, April 18, 2026, at 12:00 Noon CST in the Chapel of Tate Funeral Home in Jasper, Tennessee with Pastor Billy Ledford officiating and with speaker Debra Forshee.

Pete will be laid to rest on Saturday, April 18, 2026, at Condra Cemetery in Whitwell, Tennessee immediately following the funeral service.

Pallbearers are Alex Tinker, Allen Phillips, Adam B., Brandon Bishop, Hubert Bishop and Hayden Henry.
