KERWIN MICHAEL JONES

Kerwin “Bird” Michael Jones, 65, of South Pittsburg, Tennessee, was called home to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, April 14, 2026. Born on December 16, 1960, in South Pittsburg, he was the beloved son of Benton Jones, Sr. and Louise McCain Jones.  Bird was a man of steadfast faith and lived his life grounded in the values of the Baptist tradition. He shared a devoted marriage with his wife, Sharon Grayson Jones for 39 years, and together they built a life filled with love, family, and community.  He was in the Class of South Pittsburg High School 1979, Bird wore #66 for the Pirates football team, an experience that shaped his lifelong passion for the sport. His love for the Pirates never faded, and he cheered just as fiercely for the Tennessee Vols and the Dallas Cowboys.  Bird dedicated 30 years of service to Lodge Manufacturing, where he was known for his strong work ethic and loyalty. In his younger years, he poured his heart into coaching little league football and softball, encouraging young athletes and giving back to the community he cherished.  He found his greatest joy in the simple, meaningful moments, being outdoors with his grandchildren, mowing the yard, and spending peaceful days fishing. His presence brought warmth, humor, and steadiness to those around him.  Bird’s life was a testament to love, family, faith, and community. His memory will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.

Kerwin is preceded in death by his father, Benton Jones, Sr.; mother, Louise McCain Jones; brothers, Donald Kirk Jones, Benton Jones, Jr; grandchildren, Baby Jones, and Olivia Faye Scales.

Left to cherish his memories are his wife, Sharon Grayson Jones; son, Keaton (Alex) Jones, of Jasper, TN; daughter, Keisha (Travis) Scales of Jasper, TN; brother, Jeff Jones of Chattanooga, TN; sisters Marsha (Donnie) Hale of Jasper, TN, Janet Collier of South Pittsburg, TN; grandchildren, Demond, Donavon, Dominic Scales of Jasper, TN, Paul and Grayson Jones of Jasper, TN, Easton Payne of Jasper, TN, Sebastian and Genesis Jones of South Pittsburg, TN, several nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.

There will be a visitation on Sunday, April 19, 2026, from 3:00 to 6:00 pm CST at Tate Funeral Home in Jasper, Tennessee.
